Rafiki means friend

Rafiki Outreach partners with African communities to create sustainable access to clean water and opportunities for a brighter future.

Our mission

Clean water. Stronger communities. Lasting change.

Drilling wells is an important part of what we do, but it is not the whole story. We work directly with communities in East Africa to identify needs and develop solutions, and we help each community take responsibility for maintaining its water for years to come.

“We don’t just build water projects. We build partnerships that empower communities to care for them for generations.”

What we value

Relationships

Rafiki means friend in Swahili. Every project starts by listening to the families and leaders who will live with it.

Dignity

Communities plan with us and make the decisions. Local teams lead the work on the ground.

Responsibility

Each community takes on clear duties for looking after its water, with training and support from us.

Sustainability

We build to last, follow up after the water flows, and learn from every project.

Our story

Rafiki Outreach was founded by Reid and Jessica Anderson. Today Rafiki has teams in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Malawi, a head office in Salt Lake City, and is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the United States and a registered NGO in Kenya.

How we work

From the first conversation to years after the water flows, communities plan, build and look after their projects with us.
